Morrissey Construction Company Announces Dedication of New Hope Apartments

(6/20/08) – Morrissey Construction Company is pleased to announce the completion of historic preservation work on the New Hope Apartments located in Peoria, IL.  The New Hope Apartments are intended as homes for local homeless veterans and people with mental illness, disabilities, and substance abuse.  The supportive housing development provides a safe place to live while the tenants learn to become self sufficient.  The $11.9 million project involved renovating the former YWCA, originally built in 1928, into 79 studio apartments totaling 55,000 square feet.  The Farnsworth Group served as the architect on the project.  Construction was completed in only 13 months and was entirely accident-free.

A dedication ceremony held on June 12, 2008 was conducted by Jane Genzel, Executive Director of the Peoria Opportunities Foundation, and other officials from the Peoria Housing Authority.  Also in attendance were representatives from the office of Congressman Ray LaHood, Peoria City Council and Illinois Housing and Development Authority (IHDA).

MCC was honored for its construction work, with Caius Jennison of The Farnsworth Group quoted as saying, “Morrissey Construction Company displayed a distinct familiarity with century-old construction methods and maintained an acute consciousness of the project’s strict budget.  The successful completion of New Hope Apartments could not have been achieved without their diligence and dedication.”

Morrissey Construction Company is a general contracting firm actively engaged in all phases of the construction industry for nearly 55 years, specializing in the development and construction of multi-family affordable housing developments, educational, design/build, commercial and institutional facilities.
