MCC Meachum Apartment Project Nominated as a National Semi-Finalist
(05/12/09) – Morrissey Construction Company is pleased to announce that Meachum Crossing Apartments was the recipient of the national semi-finalist award in the Innovative Affordable Housing Development Project Showcase by NDC Academy 2009 in Washington, DC.
Meachum Crossing (named in memory of Mary Meachum) is located in Venice, Illinois, was a tax credit collaborative effort by the Madison County Housing Authority and its numerous affiliates and Morrissey Construction Company as general contractor. The 22-building complex (including one community center) consists of 78 apartment units totaling approximately 108,000 square feet. Construction on the estimated $11.5 million project is expected to be completed by November 2009.
The former Lee Wright Homes were built in the 1940’s. At that time, most people didn’t have cars, so the site didn’t provide enough parking; all the units were clustered together and didn’t utilize the large 18-acre site. The infrastructure was inadequate and lacked many modern amenities. The owner wanted to provide a neighborhood setting.
Meachum Crossing units are large and amenities are numerous, for example 3 bedroom units over 1,500 s.f., 2 bedroom units over 1,300 s.f., washer & dryer, individual storage areas, security alarms, exercise and technology centers and below market rents to name a few.
