Morrissey Construction Company Breaks Ground on Gateway Apartments Located in Madison and Venice, IL
(7/19/11) – Morrissey Construction Company is pleased to announce that it recently broke ground on Gateway Apartments located in Madison and Venice, IL on July, 12, 2011.
The development consists of 27 buildings and is comprised of 78 multi-family housing units ranging from 711sq.ft. one-bedroom apartments to 1,911sq.ft. four-bedroom townhomes. Of the 27 buildings, 19 of them will be located in Madison, IL, providing the town with 55 new multi-family housing units. The site will also be accompanied by two playgrounds. After completion, this location will be known as John W. Hamm III Apartments, named after the mayor of Madison.
The remaining eight buildings will be located in Venice, IL and contain 23 multi-family housing units. A playground and outdoor pavilion will accompany the site. After completion, this location will be known as Tyrone Echols Apartments, named after the mayor of Venice.
The development has been designed in compliance with Illinois Housing Development Authority requirements, 2008 Green Communities Criteria, and the June 2010 Illinois Energy Efficient Affordable Housing Construction Program. Financing is provided as a public-private partnership including money from Madison County Housing Authority, Madison County Community Development, and tax credits from Illinois Housing Development Authority.
The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by John W. Hamm III, Madison, IL Mayor, Tyrone Echols, Venice, IL Mayor, Thomas Holbrook, Illinois State Representative, Alan Dunstan, Madison County Board Chairman, representatives from Madison County Housing Authority, representatives from Madison County Community Development, and Morrissey Construction.
During the ceremony Alan Dunstan, Madison County Board Chairman, expressed his enthusiasm about the projects groundbreaking, “Meachum Crossing turned out beautiful and Gateway will be even better. There is no better general contractor than Morrissey Construction Company.” Morrissey Construction recently completed Meachum Crossing Apartments, another 78 unit development located in Venice, IL for the Madison County Housing Authority.
